Hot Taupic: Lobs

What do you get when you give a "Bob" hairstyle a little more length than it's used to? A Lob (long Bob hairstyle)! This hairstyle has taken over the spring season and is said to continue its fame throughout the summer season as well. I personally love this style since I've always seen "Bobs" as being a little too short for comfort. Its the perfect cut that allows you to still curl your hair without turning into Shirley Temple. It also gives you the option of going long and sleek if you straighten it. In my book it's a win-win! Several celebrities have taken on the trend and added a unique personal touch to make it their own. I've put together a couple of photos to give you ladies a little Lob inspiration since their are so many different approaches to it!

#1: Straight Lob

#2: Wavy Lob

#3: Lob with Choppy Front Bangs

#4: Partially slicked back Lob

#5: Tousled, Voluminous Lob

These are just a few examples of how celebrities took the Lob trend and made it into their own fashion statement. A key point to keep in mind when selecting which one is best for you is the shape of you face. Also it's crucial to consider the type of hair you have before cutting it too short. If you have naturally straighter hair then feel free to chop, chop, chop. However if you have naturally curly/frizzy/course hair, cutting it too short could add some serious volume. Once you've found a style you like, consult with your hairdresser as she'll know more on what's best in the long run for you!

Taupe Trend Alert: Culottes!

I know what you’re thinking…Culottes?! I too was skeptical of the trend until I saw one of my celebrity fashion icons Kelly Ripa sporting them on LIVE with Kelly and Michael. Culottes are known for originally being worn by men of the European upper-classes beginning in the Renaissance Era and by women beginning in the Victorian Era. To the eye they look like a combination of capri pants and gauchos. Who knew they’d be making a comeback in 2015?!

*DISCLAIMER: I do not think this cut of pant is for everyone nor do I believe that it will be accepted by all. I do however believe that it can definitely be pulled off with the right pairing techniques and the perfect amount of confidence!*

For those of you who love staying on taupe of a new trend I've compiled quite a few examples of how to rock culottes to help you get started:

1. Office Culottes

Of course I had to start with a picture of where I saw the trend first. It was probably best it was one of my fashion icons wearing them because I'm not sure how accepting of the trend I would have been if I had seen them done incorrectly at first. Anyways, Kelly Ripa makes these pants look like they were made for her! They're appropriate for the office and can be paired with pumps for a date after work!

2. Weekend Culottes

This look worn found on Karla's Closet blog, is a  much more casual and fun take on culottes. It's perfect for any weekend endeavors you may have. To transform this look to a night time knockout, add some standout accessories and killer pumps! This look can also be made work appropriate by swapping the crop top for a white button down blouse and some nude closed toe heels.

3. The Perfect In Between Culottes

Not headed to work or to a girls night out but still want to sport a pair of culottes? No problem! Here's a picture of the gorgeous Gigi Hadid's take on fun yet still conservative culottes. Her choice of short sleeves and royal blue pair together perfectly to create an effortlessly chic ensemble.

Again, I know these aren't for everyone but I encourage everyone to at least give them a shot because if you never try them on you'll never know how they look. Happy Shopping!

Graduating at the taupe of your class!

As my graduation day comes dauntingly closer and closer (and for some reason my school has added a countdown feature to their Instagram page that I do not appreciate in the least bit), I have been struggling to find the perfect dress to celebrate the completion of my college education. I know that I can't be the only one and therefore am dedicating this blog to all of you ladies who are also going through this process.

Luckily, I am an avid online shopper and therefore knew plenty of the places to search for a dress. For those of you who aren't sure where to shop, here's a brief list of some of my favorites (it's hard not to find a minimum of 5 dresses on each site, so brace yourselves):

1. RevolveClothing.com
2. ShopBop.com
3. Asos.com
4. Bcbg.com
5. NastyGal.com
6. Lulus.com
7. Bloomingdales.com (the equivalent of hitting the jackpot)
8. FreePeople.com
9. Tobi.com (a little less promising than the others for the occasion, but still has options)
10. SaksFifthAvenue.com (this one can be overwhelming if you're not a fan of shopping, but if you are, you've basically hit Mecca)

On any of these online portals, you can access hundreds of dresses through the click of a button. Pertaining to the fit of the dress, I suggest you stick to a cut that you know flatters your shape. Your graduation day is not the day to try a wildcard. Instead you should be comfortable, radiant, and most importantly feel your absolute best. If you are wanting to spice things up a little bit, I suggests you do so with the color of you dress. It's much easier to pull off a color than it is to pull of an unflattering shape.

Next step to your graduation look is shoes! Once again ladies this is no time for a wildcard since you'll most likely be on your feet all day. Therefore pick a comfortable heel height (wedge is best since there's about a 99.9% chance that at some point in the day you'll be on grass) that is also appropriate for the length of your dress.

Lastly, it's time to accessorize! Now here is where you don't want to overdo it. You should be the center of attention on this day and pictures should reflect it too. Therefore you can't go wrong with a classic pair of studs (diamonds or pearls are always a win), a simple yet elegant necklace, and a couple of dainty rings. This is also a great time to wear jewelry that has been passed down in your family since the majority of them will be there and will be expecting to see you wearing them.

I hope this blog makes the process a little easier and that each of you find the perfect dress that makes you feel beautiful inside and out on your special day. Also don't forget that the day is a celebration about your achievement so don't stress too much over the little things!

Taupe Notch Gals: My Favorite Fashion Bloggers!

Creating Taupe Shop was not as easy as I thought it would be, but having other fashion bloggers to pull inspiration from certainly helped! Whenever you are starting a new endeavor I highly advise you look at those who are not only already doing it, but are also excelling tremendously at it. Therefore I've complied a list of 5 gals who kill the blogging game, work their butts off and look fierce while doing so. Even if you're not into blogging and are just looking for outfit ideas, hidden restaurants, or travel destinations I recommend you check out these accounts! (These are in no particular order as they're all equally amazing in my mind)

#1: Julia Engel- Gal Meets Glam

This gorgeous blogger covers it all: style, travel, beauty, and lifestyle! Her style is fun, flirty, and never disappointing. My favorite thing about her is that she finds the tastiest healthy meals, but can indulge in a coconut ice cream cookie sandwich while relaxing on vacation.

#2: Jessica Stein- Tuula Vintage

Travel and style are this gals forte! Originally from Sydney, Australia, she brings an international perspective to the table. She travels the world constantly and never forgets to show her followers where her adventure took her that day (often it takes her to delicious eateries that make your mouth water through the screen).

#3: Mary Seng- Happily Grey

This Nashville style blogger brings a minimalist look along with her everywhere she goes. She'll have you asking yourself why you didn't put that outfit together weeks ago. Not to mention she has a darling Great Dane that will brighten your day every time she makes an appearance.

#4: Natasha Oakley- Tashoakley

Another Australian blogger with an amazing sense of style. Natasha is the co-creator of A Bikini A Day and the designer of Monday Swimwear, so you know she's got the best swimsuits around (and arguably the best bod around too)! She also seems to live at the beach, so her pictures are breath taking and make you wish you were there with her.

#5: Kat Tanita: With Love From Kat

This New York City based blogger covers fashion, beauty and travel all while maintaining an impeccable style. She'll keep you updated on the best books to read, shoes to buy, restaurants to go to, and places to see!

Keeping you on taupe of things: It's officially Spring!

In case you haven't heard, the Spring season has officially arrived. That means it's time to bring out the pastels from the back of your closet and pull out those open-toe shoes that have been mocking you all winter long. You may be asking what colors are said to be a hit this Spring, but no worries I've done all of the research for you! Pantone recently released their annual color prediction for all of the 2015 seasons, and contrary to last spring's neons, this spring features more muted colors (hello beautiful neutrals). So, without further adieu, I give you this Spring's hottest colors:

1. Aquamarine

This color is a calm, dreamy blue that is said to be soothing. It's color roots stem back to the ocean, making it the perfect color to pack for a vacation(or to wear any day as a relaxing reminder of the beach and sunny days).

2. Scuba Blue

This color has much more vibrant and vivacious notes. It can be worn as the as the perfect pick me up as it's color contains a contagious energy.

3. Lucite Green

This color is comparable to aquamarine as it too is very soothing in nature. It's hues are refreshing, gentle, and airy making it the perfect color for a breezy day.

4. Classic Blue

This color, like it's name, is classic and confident. It's one of the more bold colors Pantone listed for the season making it perfect for a work presentation or a formal evening out to send your confidence soaring.

5. Toasted Almond

(I'd like one of everything in this color, please!)
Like I said, hello beautiful neutral! This color has a very warm, organic hue that embodies the summer season just around the corner.

6. Strawberry Ice

This color is very refreshing and sweet, much like the name suggests. It has a glowing hue and tempting charm that makes it a hard color choice to refuse.

7. Tangerine

This color is bold without being overly in your face. It's hue is juicy and irresistible
making it a must have color if you're looking to spice things up this Spring.

8. Custard

This color makes you want to floor it to your closest ice cream parlor. It's hue is fun, sunny, and lighthearted. So if you're a "wherever the wind takes me" kind of gal, this is the perfect color for you!

9. Marsala

This color is as yummy as it sounds. It's one of Pantone's more daring choices, and I'm all about it. It's hue is sensual, warm and sophisticated.

10. Glacier Gray (A Taupe Shop favorite!)

This timeless color is one to always have in your closet. It can easily be transitioned from fall to winter, winter to spring, spring to summer, and summer to fall. It has a relaxing and peaceful hue that is perfect for starting your day off on a positive note!

So now that you have all of the color info you'll need to look your best this Spring, go out and have some fun with it! Even if you're wearing a color not on the list, remember that it's your confidence that ultimately makes an outfit work.

Taupe Shelf Perfumes: My 3 Must Haves!

When you first meet some one there are a couple of things that immediately stand out. Some people say it's another persons eye color or smile and for others its their shoes or clothes. I, however, have always found it to be a persons perfume that leaves a lasting impression. To me it's the first thing someone you are meeting will notice and should they smell the scent elsewhere it will remind them of you. This being said, it's very important you pick a signature fragrance that isn't too overwhelming while at the same time not too underwhelming either (also ladies, dousing yourself in any perfume regardless of scent is always a no-no). I know this sounds a bit tricky, so I've pulled together my favorite three perfumes that I believe cover every occasion!
The first perfume shown, The Vert Green Tea by L'Occitane, is a perfume I've had for the longest period of time. It's scent is made up of orange, green tea, jasmine, mate, cedar, and thyme. This was my signature scent for the longest time since it is such a delightfully fresh scent that it can be worn anytime of day. If I had to choose an occasion in which it was most appropriate I would definitely say it's a beach/summer scent.

The second perfume shown, Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolf, I try to save for more formal events. Its scent is made up of sambac jasmine, centifolia rose, cattleya orchid, ballerina freesia, and patchouli. I would still rank it in the fresh fragrance category but it definitely is stronger than The Vert Green Tea. If I had to choose an occasion in which it was most appropriate I would say at a formal dinner or night time event.

The third perfume shown, Chance by Chanel, is a perfume I came across most recently. I think it's the perfect in between of the other two fragrances. It's not as airy and light as The Vert Green Tea yet it's not as powerful as Flowerbomb. It's classic scent is made up of grapefruit, quince, fresh green notes, jasmine absolute, and white musk. Therefore I believe this scent can be worn all day and to any function. Overtime it has become my go to (Word of Advice: When it come's to creating a product that will never grow old, leave it to Chanel), and I've started to use The Vert Green Tea as a gloomy day pick me up.

Bikini Taupes and Flip Flops: The Ultimate Guide to Spring Break!

It’s finally that time of year ladies…SPRING BREAK…which also welcomes the most dreaded time of the year for some women…SWIMSUIT SEASON! That being said, this blog goes out to all of those ladies who cringe at the sound of the words “pool party” or “beach trip”. I’m challenging each and every one of you to become confident in your own skin instead of sitting around the pool in your cover up secretly hoping you’ll get some color (all that’s really getting you is a guaranteed farmer’s tan). I know you’re probably asking how I could expect you to do this overnight, but I’m a true believer that it all comes down to the suit you’re wearing. There’s no better way to feel confident rocking your yellow polka dot bikini than by picking out the perfect silhouette for your body. Therefore I've compiled an array of tops and bottoms that are sure to flatter every body type so that you can take on Spring Break like you never have before!

Option #1: Triangle Top and String Bikini Bottom

This Cia.Martima swimsuit is a knockout that features a bold print and gold hardware. The print makes it super easy to mix and match the top and bottom with other separates you may have (love doing this)! This swim set is particularly suited for those who are not lacking in the chest department as it features very light padding and takes the shape of the person wearing it. These bottoms offer what's called "moderate coverage", meaning the majority of your cheeks are covered. In general these bottoms are a safe bet for women of all body types! If you are smaller chested and trying to pull of a suit fitted like this one, definitely look for a bold print that will enhance some of the features you lack. Also ruffles and fringe also help to achieve a fuller look!
The Perfect Polish Match: Essie "bikini so teeny"

Option #2: Push-up Triangle Top (these are literally "pick-me-ups" if you're smaller on top) and Low "V" Cut Bikini Bottom

For all you ladies trying to work with what your mama gave you (and your mama didn't give you much) this Victoria's Secret suit is for you (and me)! It's features a bold leopard print and a secure twist in the center of the top. This top also has corner padding in order to put your "girls" in their place. The center twist comes in handy as it holds the top in place giving it structure. These bottoms are a little more risky as they feature a low "V" cut in the front and moderate coverage in the back. This "V" cut is perfect for showing off lower abs but should be avoided if you're feeling bloated(it frames the area).
The Perfect Polish Match: Essie "good as gold"
Sun Shades: Prada

Option #3: Bandeau Top and Side Ruched Bikini Bottom

In case you didn't already know, Victoria's Secret is the queen of swimsuits and this next selection is no exception. This bandeau top is a win for a lot of women since it's cut is flattering regardless of size. The only problem is that if you are larger than a size C, this top could get a little tricky. This is because although it has padding, it lacks in structure which could be a disaster waiting to happen if you enjoy surfing ocean waves. These bottoms however are extremely flattering to all body types and feature a moderate coverage. The ruched sides make them very comfortable and stretch to fit your body(BONUS: the ruching also grips you more than a string bikini so they're more likely to stay in place).
The Perfect Polish Match: Essie "play date"
Sun Shades: Ray-Bans

Option #4: Strapless Top and Side Ruched Bikini Bottom

This Victoria's Secret strapless swimsuit features a gorgeous sequin design and a regal sapphire color that will be sure to turn heads. The top offers more coverage than a typical bandeau and therefore can suit girls from bra size A-D! This style of swimsuit is also available with a built in wire just to make sure the "girls" aren't going anywhere.  These bottoms are very similar to the one's above in that they feature the side ruching detail.
The Perfect Polish Match: Essie "butler please"
Sun Shades: Ray-Bans

Option #5: Halter Top and Tie String Bikini Bottom

This Target Xhilaration swimsuit is perfect if you prefer to leave more to the imagination. It has a halter top style that criss-crosses in the back and a loose panel that flows along with your every move. This panel hangs low enough to cover to top portion of your stomach so you can feel more comfortable wherever your sunny days take you. These bottoms tie at the sides making them a custom fit while still covering the majority of your backside. When shopping for suits make sure you look for those with a classic pattern like these polka dots so that you can wear them season after season!
The Perfect Polish Match: Essie "over the edge"

My Taupe 5 Best Dressed from the 2015 Oscars!

Last night's Oscars was the first award show that I have seen in a long time that almost everyone there could make the best dressed list! It featured hues of red, mesh inserts, and TONS of neutrals (I was in heaven). That being said, it was extremely hard to only pick a taupe 5 so I added 2 under the category of "Honorable Mention" because I felt my list would be incomplete without them!So without further ado here is my list of leading ladies:

Honorable Mention:

Rosamund Pike (wearing Givenchy) and Emma Stone (wearing Elie Saab)

#5: Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon NEVER disappoints with her timeless and flattering ensembles. Last night was no exception, as she exuded confidence in this Tom Ford gown. She also brought much attention to the #askhermore campaign which promotes more in depth interview questions for women than simply covering what/who they are wearing(it doesn't preach getting rid of these fashion questions, but rather asking other questions, along with the fashion questions, pertaining to these ladies work as well). I believe this is a wonderful concept as these women have worked hard to establish themselves in the industry and have become very accomplished.

#4: Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyeneth Paltrow stunned in this Ralph & Russo Couture gown featuring a shoulder rosette. The pastel color complimented her hair and skin tone perfectly, while the actual fit of the dress drew attention to the smallest part of her waist. It was a very understated color choice but if you were watching last night, you couldn't miss her!

#3: Jennifer Lopez

If I ever had to blindly guess which celebrity would steal the show, I'd put my money on Jennifer Lopez. She consistently dazzles and seems to only get more beautiful with age. Last night she proved all of the above to be true when she stepped out in this Elie Saab silhouette. The beading on this dress was exquisite and the color only enhanced her flawless skin. Paired with the perfect shade of pink lipstick JLo was the ultimate knockout!

#2: Jennifer Aniston

Known for loving neutral shades and wearing them like they were made for her, it's no wonder Jennifer Aniston is #2 on my taupe 5 list. She was drop-dead-gorgeous in this beaded Versace gown last night that accentuated her sculpted body. It's sheer bottom added a touch of glamour that was unmatched on the carpet. Much like JLo, Jennifer only gets more beautiful with age and therefore it's no shocker that she constantly places on Best Dressed lists. (On a serious note, how do I get this dress in my closet?!)

And the best dressed of the 2015 Oscars goes to...

#1: Lupita Nyong'o

This was a given, and I question the credibility of any article that doesn't have her listed! Lupita Nyong'o took every girl's dream and made it come true last night by stepping out in a Calvin Klein dress made of 6000 pearls (Fun Fact: Websites are speculating the minimum cost per pearl was $25, making the total cost at least $150,000...and that's without designer fees and other materials). Lupita is known for only wearing the most fashionable and elegant ensembles, but last night's dress stole the show, and possibly all award shows this season.

Can't Taupe a Snow Day!

What's the best thing to hear as a college student besides "your test is canceled" or "your project due date has been moved back"? "HAPPY SNOWDAY!" Of course the majority of students use this as a day to sleep in and have a relaxing day in doors, but for those of you who dare to venture out of the house, I've put together a blog just for you! I'm letting you know the boots you'll need to not only endure the cold but also stay firmly planted on taupe of the ice and snow.

Option #1:

I chose these pair of Hunter Boots because their a classic and a closet staple! They're my taupe pick for low temperature, icy days because they have a layer of insulation to keep your toes warm. They also go up to the knee (so feel free to stomp) and are non-glossy, resembling a typical riding boot. The cherry on taupe? They're black and go with everything!

Option #2:

I chose these pair of Polo Ralph Lauren boots because of their casual and laid back demeanor. They resemble the current rage of "Bean Boots" with the touch of a timeless brand. I prefer to wear these on what I call "aftermath" days, meaning the snow is melting, the sun is shining, and the overall temperature is warmer. These are also a great year round pick since you can wear them in the summer on rainy days without getting toasty from added insulation.

Option #3:

I threw in these Sperry boots (distributed through J. Crew) as a wildcard! These are perfect for keeping your feet warm from the cold as they feature a furry inside. They also have a rubber outside to block out any snow/ice/water you may come across on your venture. Last but not least their bold color makes a statement that few winter boots do and will definitely leave a lasting impression.

So wherever your snowy day may take you, any of these three choices will definitely help get you there!

Taupe Coat: Nail Colors for Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my followers!

Whether your plans include a 50 Shades of Grey movie date with your gal pals, dinner reservations with your boyfriend, or a date with your chaise lounge and some quality take-out food, there’s one decision all of us girls have in common this Valentine’s Day: “What color nail polish should I chose to celebrate the holiday?” Look no further! This week on the blog I’m giving you 5 different color options that suit every kind of gal.
The first color I chose was Essie "Soul Mate". This color has a hue similar to that of a glass of succulent Cabernet Sauvignon. It exudes sophistication and a sense of mystery making it a perfect color for date night.
Color: Essie Soul Mate
My next color of choice is an all time favorite of mine regardless of season or holiday! It is by OPI and is called "Big Apple Red". It has a classy feel with a "you never know what's going to happen" kind of finish. So whatever your plans may be, you're sure to make a bold statement with this color choice!

Color: OPI Big Apple Red
OPI's polish, Santiago Sangria, is their way of saying "let's dance the night away"! This is definitely a color any gal can appreciate and therefore is most flawless when paired with a night with the girls. When wearing this polish, you'll radiate confidence without saying a word!
Color: OPI Santiago Sangria

Of course, I couldn't post a blog without throwing in some neutrals! This one goes out to the girls who are just as head over heels for the lighter side of the color wheel as I am. Got plans to kick back a watch a classic movie instead of fighting the lines to watch a premier? Then this Essie Muchi, Muchi polish is your color! It has a timeless, and always classy tint that is appropriate for any occasion. While some say it is a safe choice, I think it's a real class act!
Color: Essie Muchi, Muchi

Last, but certainly not least, is another one of my all time favorites and I know several gals who agree. Whether you're trying to use it as a winter white or during the summer to showcase that tan, this Essie Marshmallow polish is always a win. Much like Essie Muchi, Muchi, it's appropriate for any occasion and matches even your wildest of outfits.
Color: Essie Marshmallow

Tip Taupe Shape: Sweating never looked so good!

Lattice backs, mesh panels, and cutouts, OH MY!

Fashion and active wear are the “it” couple of the year and have been spotted on even the most lavish runways.  Expert brands Nike and Under Armour are running to the drawing boards to try to take their legendary active wear from drab to fab. On the contrary, brands like LuluLemon, Adidas, and Athleta saw this trend coming and arrived to the scene with statement pieces that consumers couldn’t get enough of.  This trend is expected to continue to grow immensely, and has even been given the stigma by Yahoo writer, Jamie McKillop, of being the “new celebrity perfume”!  We’re all familiar with celebrities selecting a fragrance and stamping their name on the bottle. Well this concept is now believed to be happening to the active wear portion of the fashion industry. For example, Heidi Klum, who has previously launched several versions of her original perfume, "Shine", is now launching a collection with New Balance. McKillop also brings up other examples including Kate Hudson’s partnership with Fabletica, and BeyoncĂ©’s soon to come with TopShop (so excited about this one).

Yahoo Article Source: https://www.yahoo.com/beauty/is-activewear-the-new-celebrity-perfume-107323329010.html
Personally I believe this comparison is spot on! Any brand that can, should be getting in on this trend as the emphasis on health and wellness is soaring. If there’s money to spare while doing so, throwing in a celebrity endorser never hurts. Reflecting on this growing industry and updated active wear, I've put together 2 solid looks that upgrade your workout attire from boring to fashion industry and school schedule approved!

Look 1: Headed to the gym after class!

This look is 100% class and fashion approved since peplum tops have taken over fashion in the past year. The fit of a peplum top is one that leaves you exuding confidence due to the fact that it cinches at the most flattering point of the waist and flares out from there. Therefore any trouble areas are easily camouflaged. The fact that American Eagle Outfitter's Performance line mixed this everyday peplum fit with dry fit, gym-ready material made it an instant buy for me. Next, these MPG Capri pants are not only slimming but also have a pink touch of glam to set them apart from the generic black staple leggings. Lastly, these Nike Free Run Running Shoes are the ultimate cherry on top that make this workout combo a home run!
Top: AOE Performance Peplum Top
Bottom: MPG Capri Black/Pink Leggings
Shoes: Nike Free Run Running Shoes
Bag: Longchamp Le Pliage Large Shoulder Tote Black

Look 2: Attending a relaxing weekend yoga session!

Want to find your center in style? Check out this look that incorporates all of the hottest trends in fashion! To start, this top from LuluLemon is one of my personal favorites. Not only is it my favorite color (remember my love of all things neutral), but it also has an intricate back featuring forever-glamorous cut outs. If you think this top is a win, check out the LuluLemon Gray/Mesh Capris! They're made in such a neutral color that they can be matched with anything, but also feature such stunning mesh designs setting them apart from any other. Mesh has been an uber-trend recently, and having such a breathable material makes it a perfect fit for gym styles. Lastly, these lightweight Mizuno sneakers make you feel like you're walking on pillows (making them the PERFECT weekend and relaxation shoe).
Top: LuluLemon Light Pink Tank
Bottom: LuluLemon Gray/Mesh Capris

Shoes: Mizuno Lightweight Sneaker
Yoga Mat: TJ Maxx
